Our Organization

The Beach Garden Club (BGC) was founded in Long Beach, Indiana in 1933 by Mrs. George Holt. Today, we continue our mission as it was initially defined by the women that founded our organization, and have expanded to include members in these nearby communities: Duneland Beach, Shoreland Hills, Michiana Shores and Michiana.

Our Mission

“The object of this Club shall be to provide an opportunity for the members to discuss plant culture, landscaping of homes, and beautification of the beach area. It shall also endeavor to preserve the native wildlife of the area and the integrity of the environment.”

Our Members

Our members meet six times per year for planning and continuing education. We work with the administrations of our towns, and we are often seen planting, weeding, watering, and tending to many gardens in our communities throughout the growing season. Members of the BGC have many years of gardening experience including a number of members who have achieved the certification of Master Gardener.

Garden Walk

For the first time in our history, the BGC sponsored a “Blooms Along the Beach” Garden Walk in June 2025, with proceeds benefiting continuing beautification efforts in the area. The 2025 Garden Walk was extremely successful, with over 180 attendees who were shuttled via buses through Long Beach and Michiana to visit 7 beautiful gardens within 6 miles along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
